Call for EPSRC – Industrial CASE studentships

The Photonics and Plastic Electronics KTN (PPE-KTN) has been given an allocation of Industrial CASE studentships for 2010 by the EPSRC. They now invite applications for these industry-sponsored PhD studentships. These will be awarded to companies via a competition based on project proposals submitted to the PPE- KTN.

The deadline for the PPE-KTN to receive applications for this competition is Thursday 25 March 2010 and the winners will be announced by 31 March 2010.

We are particularly interested in supporting projects that show alignment with any of the key challenge areas, the ESP KTN will address five key challenge areas as follows:
•    Quality of Life Technologies – including real time detection, identification and monitoring of diseases, drug development and targeted drug delivery

•    Smart Moves – including making vehicles work better and improving transport infrastructures

•    Connected World – including material tracking, models for appropriate use of collected data and long-range rfid

•    Electricity for the Future – including photovoltaic (solar) technology for local electricity generation, local energy storage for renewable systems and integration of demand systems with local power generation

•    Secure World – including personal & product safety/security and anti terror/crime.

In compliance with EPSRC’s requirements for agents we will give prioritisation to SME companies and particularly to companies establishing new collaborations with academic partners.
